More venues to be eligible for the Nordic Swan Ecolabel
It will soon be possible to Nordic Swan Ecolabel venues, such as cultural centres, exhibition halls and arenas. This is proposed by Nordic Ecolabelling, which has now launched the criteria proposal for public consultation. At the same time, the requirements for Nordic Swan Ecolabelled conference venues are tightened.
There is significant potential to reduce the environmental and climate impact of venues, as well as conference facilities. Nordic Ecolabelling therefore proposes that venues such as concert halls, theatres, museums, cultural centres, exhibition halls, multi-purpose venues, arenas and similar operations will be eligible for the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. At the same time, Nordic Swan Ecolabelled conference venues will be required to meet the same set of criteria.
– We have developed proposed criteria as we see significant opportunities to enable more environmentally sustainable choices for organisers and procurers. These include requirements for energy efficiency measures, serving food and beverages with reduced environmental impact, using cleaning products that comply with strict chemical requirements, and setting environmental requirements for their own procurement. The aim is to reduce the overall environmental and climate impact by targeting requirements where they make the greatest difference, says Sanna Wihlborg, Product Specialist at Ecolabelling Sweden, which is responsible for the official Nordic ecolabel, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, in Sweden.
The proposal includes requirements within the following areas: energy use and operations, water use, food and beverages, resource use, cleaning, waste, biodiversity and procurement. The criteria have been developed as a continuation of the requirements launched by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel last year for events, covering festivals, conferences, concerts and sporting events.
