  1. Samsung Ecolabels LCDs

Now the majority of Samsung LCD and LED TVs are branded with the EU Ecolabel (formerly known as the EU Flower). The EU Ecolabel criteria for televisions have recently been revised and made more stringent. Samsung are among the first companies to have fulfilled the new requirements.

”Choosing an Ecolabelled TV is a distinct way to actually make a difference. Another advantage is that our energy efficient TVs also reduce the consumers’ electricity bill”, says Andreas Bratt, Samsung Product Manager for TVs in the Nordic region.

TV carrying the EU Ecolabel must use as little energy as possible. Through little energy usage both when the TV is on and in stand-by mode the impact on the climate is reduced.

The Samsung LCDs also fulfill the requirements regarding recycling which leads to less use of oil and metal. Thus an EU Ecolabelled TV does not contribute to the green house effect as much as other comparable models.

An EU Ecolabelled TV also contains a minimum of chemicals that are injurious to health and environment. Some hormone disturbing flame-proofing have for example been banned.

”The requirements regarding the apparatus’ energy use have been made more stringent and already harmonize with the EU directive for energy-using products (EuP). Only Class A TVs can be branded with the EU Ecolabel”, says Ove Jansson, Product Manager, Ecolabelling Sweden.

The requirements that limit the use of health and environmentally hazardous substances in plastic are now more stringent. Also the allowed quantity of mercury in display screens has been reduced.

Apart from the EU Ecolabel, all models in Samsung’s LED series are branded with the Nordic Ecolabel whose criteria resemble the criteria for the EU Ecolabel.
