An event certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel meets ambitious environmental requirements and has taken a holistic approach to its environmental work. The event is reducing its consumption and optimizing its operations, as well as engaging their suppliers in environmental work.
The requirements include:
- Limiting energy use and greenhouse gas emissions by implementing energy-efficient measures
- Use of electricity and biofuel instead of fossil fuels
- Reduction of climate impact from transportation
- Use of cups with reduced environmental impact – and other disposable items meet strict requirements
- Serving food with a reduced environmental footprint, including a variety of organic and vegetarian options
- Reduction of consumption in general and stimulating reuse of decorations
- Limitation of harmful and unwanted chemicals in general cleaning and dishwashing by using ecolabelled cleaning products
- Involvement of staff and suppliers in the environmental work
The product group includes cultural events, such as concerts and theatre performances, exhibitions and festivals, corporate meetings, seminars and workshops – as well as trade fairs and conferences. In addition, political events such as debates are included – as well as sports events and tournaments.

If this is the first time you are applying, the authorized signatory must fill in your company information and approve the application conditions. In this way, you get login to the portal and the right to assign access to other colleagues.

Ecolabelling Sweden AB has no financial profit purpose and is financed through the fees above along with an annual government grant. The company is however liable for VAT according to article 56 of the European Council Directive 2006/112/EC.
Invoicing is made in SEK with the exchange rate from the first banking day of the year.
When both the applicant and the manufacturer are micro-enterprises, the application fee is reduced by 50%. A micro-enterprise is in this context defined as an enterprise with less than 10 employees and an annual turnover (of both ecolabelled and not ecolabelled products) below 2 million EUR.

1.0 ⇛ 1.1: Adjustment of criteria
On 21 April 2026, Nordic Ecolabelling implemented two changes to the criteria. Requirement “O25 Serving of takeaway” was adjusted to include an exemption for paper cups for hot beverages with unique, event specific printing. Requirement “O21 Responsible food and beverage production” was removed. New version is called 1.1.
1.0: New criteria generation
Nordic Ecolabelling adopted version 1.0 of the criteria for 117 Events on June 3, 2025. The criteria document is valid until May 31, 2030.
