What has been changed?

  • Product definition
    • The criteria now also include wood plastic composite (WPC), surface treated solid wood used for cladding and aluminium used in fixing system/installation bracket for the installation of panels and cladding.
    • Cross laminated timber (CLT) has been removed to criteria for panels for interior use as these are primarily designed for use in protected environment.
    • Masonry façade tiles according to EN 771 is not part of the consultation criteria due to lack of energy data to identify any possible potential for this product type. However, we are still working to get more data to determine any potential and possible inclusion of masonry façade tiles in the future criteria.
  • New requirement for responsible sourcing of virgin mineral raw materials.
  • New raw material requirements for WPC and aluminium.
  • Stricter requirements for share of recycled raw materials in mineral wool-based panels.
  • New and stricter requirements for energy use in production of panels as well as production of cement.
  • The chemical requirements have been stringed in several ways e.g., a ban on using chemicals that are classified as environmentally harmful and the requirement for constituent substances now also includes CMR category 2 substances.
  • New requirement for minimum 50 year expected lifespan of the panel.
  • A new requirement for innovation has been introduced which promotes various measures to reduce the total environmental impact from production of panels, either related to the product itself or to conditions in production. At least one of the listed measures must be fulfilled.

In addition to the above mentioned we would also like your comments on the following matters

  • New requirement for durability or expected lifespan of the panel has been introduced in the criteria. By durability/expected lifespan is meant the stated service life in technical documents such as EPDs, ETA's or other 3 party verified declarations. Is this a good way of documenting the requirement or should we focus on warranty? We appreciate to have your comments on the requirement.
