Fees for Nordic Ecolabel

Ecolabelling Sweden is a non-profit company. However, we charge fees to cover handling of applications, license reviewing, criteria development and marketing the Nordic Ecolabel.

Application Fee
When a company applies for an ecolabelling licence an application fee is charged. This fee covers the administration of the application as well as an on-site audit, which must be carried out before the licence can be allocated. In addition, the applicant must cover travel expenses should the manufacturing plant be situated outside the Nordic countries.

The application fee is €2 000 (excl VAT) which includes an audit at the production facility.
When an on-site audit is to be conducted outside the Nordic countries an additional fee of €500 is charged. Should the production facility be situated outside the EU or Switzerland, an additional fee of €1 500 is charged.

License fee

Once the licence has been granted a license fee will be charged. In most cases the fee is 0,3 per cent of the company's turnover for products carrying the Nordic Ecolabel to which the licence applies. See Nordic fees section for exceptions regarding the license fee.

Maximum and minimum fees
In Sweden the minimum annual fee is €1 400 (excl VAT) and the maximum fee is €35 000 (excl VAT). The fee is charged per licence, product group and production site. For example, if two factories manufacture the same Nordic Ecolabelled product, the annual fee will be at least €2 800 and €70 000 at the most.

Cost for review

When the Nordic Ecolabel criteria have been revised the licensee must apply for a review. The application fee when reviewing a license is €1 000.

Costs for expansion and changes

The handling of matters which takes up to half a day to finalize costs €250. Matters that take up one day to finalize cost €500 and matters that take more than a day to handle are charged €1 000. All prices are shown excluding VAT.

Nordic harmonized fees

A different fee structure applies to the following product groups: Supermarket grocery stores, Hotels and youth hostels, Restaurants, Laundries/ Textile services, Printing Companies, Cleaning services, Small houses, apartment buildings and pre-school buildings

Nordic Fees
Our aim is to achieve a common Nordic structure for all fees. So far products from the areas Primary batteries, Rechargeable batteries and battery chargers, Domestic appliances, Imaging equipment, Floor coverings, Furniture, Computers, Audiovisual equipment, Cosmetics, Outdoor furniture and playground equipment, Stoves, Dishwasher detergents for professional use, Copy and printing paper, Controlled basic paper, Chemical building products and Disposable bags, tubes and accessories for health care have been incorporated into the Nordic fee system.

Ecolabelling in other Nordic countries

Should the product group to which your license belongs to not be a part of the Nordic fee structure but you wish to sell it as Ecolabelled in other Nordic countries than Sweden you will need to register that product in those countries. You will not have to pay the application fee once again. You will however be charged a license fee based on the turnover of your product in all Nordic countries where your product is sold. For more information, please contact the Nordic Ecolabelling organization in the country where you wish to sell the product.
