Criteria

EU Ecolabel´s criteria are developed by national organisations in EU countries on consignment from the EU Commission.
EU Ecolabel works the same way as the Nordic Ecolabel. It is a Type 1 Ecolabel. Products are reviewed through a life-cycle perspective, from source to waste.

In order to receive a licence the products must fulfill stringent environmental, health, function and quality requirements. These criteria are continually revised, in the same way as the Nordic Ecolabel criteria. Manufacturers must test their products and document that their product has fulfilled the criteria for this product group.

Today there are seven different product categories and 28 product groups. These include cleaning detergents, soap, hair schampoo, dishwasher powders, dishwashers, heating pumps, TV, refrigerators, light bulbs, washing powders, vacuum cleaners, bed mattresses, shoes, textiles, camping sites, flooring, wooden furniture, paper products, and lubricants.
